Are the lights hanging well in a small kitchen table and the island?

I am remodeling my kitchen and not sure about the lighting. It is a small kitchen with plenty of any island or table. I'm thinking of recessed lighting can do, but also as an embellishment in the center of the room. I like hanging lamps, but do not know if they will not hang well on a counter, island or table.
